Gospel for Asia(GFA) is ministering to victims of the Easter Sunday bombings on eight Sri Lankan churches and hotels and is encouraging survivors and fellow believers to stand firm in their faith.

The bombings claimed the lives of nearly 300 people and impacted thousands of Christians. Dr. K.P. Yohannan, founder and director of the missions organization, is in India and tells OneNewsNow some Sri Lankan Christians are asking how God could allow such things to happen.

“I told my people the only way you’re going to make it is to look at Christ’s suffering. He chose it and for the sake of something much bigger. So this suffering, I don’t understand how to handle it, but I had to look at the cross,” he responds.

Jesus said Christians would be persecuted, and Yohannan believes the Easter bombings are an example of that persecution. Bombs were placed at two of Gospel for Asia’s offices, and though they did not explode, several GFA personnel were killed in church bombings.

Yohannan says this tragedy is a call to action for Christians worldwide.

“Do earnestly pray,” he implores. “That’s something that we can do. Secondly, that people don’t leave their faith but [stand on] God-given grace. And thirdly, as God leads, let’s do what we can to help the suffering at this time.”

Some Sri Lankans have left Christianity out of fear stemming from the bombings, but most are standing on the Bible.
