Widow Food Relief Brings Help Through a Time of Crisis

WILLS POINT, TX – During the pandemic, widow food relief brought practical help to women facing hunger, grief and isolation. GFA missionaries and pastors provided rice, lentils, oil, salt and other basic supplies to widows and single mothers who could no longer earn an income. Their care reached women affected by illness, lockdowns, a cyclone and abandonment, offering food and encouragement when each need felt urgent.

As cases of COVID-19 rose and lockdowns kept people at home, impoverished families found themselves struggling to survive. Without work, many feared starvation. In response to the growing desperation, thousands of GFA missionaries took the initiative to feed and encourage those in need.

Among those who particularly struggled were widows and single mothers, who were often the sole breadwinners for themselves and their children. The pandemic had prevented many of them from earning an income. In one mountainous region, GFA missionaries and pastors identified 12 women who desperately needed help and provided them with bags of rice, lentils, oil, salt and other basic supplies to fight hunger. Many of the women had also been personally affected by the virus.

One recipient, Prue, and her husband had both tested positive for the virus. Prue survived, but her husband did not.
