Pray for Nepal as Flood Devastation Leaves Thousands Missing

WILLS POINT, TX — As thousands remain missing after devastating flooding, Christians are being urged to pray for Nepal and keep the people affected close in heart and mind. GFA World’s appeal is not simply about recognizing the scale of the disaster, but about refusing to let suffering become another story that quickly fades from attention. The need for prayer remains deeply personal.

A worldwide ministry with missionaries already on the ground is working hard to help the thousands of people who are lost in hopeless devastation after the landslide and flooding washed away people’s lives, homes, and livelihoods in Nepal.

Last Wednesday, there was a glacier that broke off one of the mountain ranges in Nepal about a kilometer wide, instantly causing a landslide of mud, rocks, and water to come cascading down the mountain, crushing and washing away thousands of people and many villages.

“Right now, over 5,000 people are still missing and I think the number of people who lost their lives is over 1,000,” says Bishop Daniel Punnose, the president of GFA World. “It’s caused so much devastation and destruction.”

Punnose shares that it will take a very long time to gather the actual number of people who’ve died from this natural disaster, as many fled up the mountains and are scared to return home. As well, many bodies are buried under 20-30 feet of mud.

Nepal’s flood survivors need more than a passing moment of attention as rescue and relief work goes on. Families are grieving, people remain missing, and communities face a long road after homes and livelihoods were swept away.
