Pastor KP Yohannan shares this food for thought, reflecting on the crisis that the modern church is facing today, a new sort of “Christ”.
The Holy Scripture says there will be “a great falling away” where those who believed they were true Christians are faced with a test, and suddenly, they find they can no longer stand, and they fall apart. I think about some of the trials those like our brothers and sisters in China face today, many of whom I met during my travels. If they are caught having a meeting ina place that is not government-authorized, they will be punished.
Or remember the story in in Libya that made such big news? Twenty Coptic Orthodox Christians who refused to deny Christ were marched to the beach and beheaded. What did these believers have that we are missing? We no longer know what is true and authentic and what is not.
A few years ago, I spent a whole year traveling throughout North America and Europe, speaking almost every Sunday. You wouldn’t believe the endless miles I traveled. But at the end of it, I was somewhat sad. You might ask why.
The overall lack of the fear of God saddened me! In some churches where the Eucharist (Holy Communion) was served, how quickly it was done and how casually it seemed to be received. And in a few places, it was not even included as part of the worship service. I felt the music of the preaching had become the main center of attraction rather than the wounded Lamb who sits on the throne…
