Gospel for Asia (GFA) is helping draw attention to the plight of millions of girls and is continuing to help provide a bridge of hope to those who may not otherwise have any sort of future. Danny Punnose, vice president of Gospel for Asia (GFA), explains that the International Day of the Girl Child has been observed every October 11 since 2012. He says millions of children in India alone are locked into a life of poverty and struggle. And many are sold into slavery.

“There are many reasons for this — because of caste, because of poverty, because of the dynamics of their family,” Punnose continues. “Whether they are trafficked into bonded labor, they are slaves, they are in the sex trade, so many don’t realize that there’s life beyond the misery that they are living in.”

A contributing factor is the lack of education, as is not free in India. So in an effort to help in that area, Gospel for Asia (GFA) provides through the Bridge of Hope program.

“We offset the cost of their books and uniforms, their school bags — enabling them to be able to go to school and build them up with the love of Christ,” Punnose shares. “They learn, they read, they write, they get an education, and it helps them to be able to break the cycle of poverty in their families.”

Because the culture favors male children, if food is in short supply, then the boys are fed, and the girls starved. So the missions organization also feeds the children…
