TIRUVALLA — The Nepal Government has lauded the relief operations carried out by volunteers of the Believers Church and Gospel for Asia after the country was hit by a series of earthquakes recently.

The Nepal military has provided helicopters to the Church volunteers to transport relief materials to various parts of the country.

The Believers Church is probably the only organisation that was provided with helicopters in Nepal for relief works.

More than 500 volunteers from the Believers Church took part in the rescue operations, since the first earthquake hit Nepal. Despite the poor weather conditions and transportation facilities, the volunteers managed to reach out to victims in the mountainous and remote villages.

The relief work is continuing, especially in the hardest hit and extremely remote districts of Gorkha and Sindhupalchok.

Nepal’s former prime minister Madhav Kumar, officials of the Nepal military and government officials have joined the Church volunteers in distributing the relief supplies.

Initially, the Believers Church released Rs 3 crore for the earthquake victims. Believers Church metropolitan K P Yohannan has instructed the volunteers in Nepal to do whatever is possible to help the victims.

Currently, volunteers from 400 parishes and 20 schools in Nepal are engaged in the relief operations.

Kathmandu Diocesan bishop Narayan Sharma is leading the rescue work. Food, water, medicines, blankets, cooking vessels and plastic sheets for making tents are being distributed.
