Gospel for Asia and Body of Life provide lifeline for local families struggling with COVID-19 income loss WILLS POINT, TX — Gospel for Asia (GFA World) and Body of Life ministries gave away more than 1,000 boxes packed with fresh food items to needy local families impacted by COVID-19 on Saturday.
The ministries organized the food drive, held at GFA World’s headquarters in Wills Point, to help families living in Van Zandt and Kaufman counties who are hurting financially because of job losses.
“I’m so grateful we’re able to serve our community during this critical time when so many are losing hope,” said Bishop Danny Yohannan, vice president of Gospel for Asia (GFA World), an international missions organization.
News of Saturday’s event circulated through social media, drawing hundreds of people. Families received food boxes containing fresh produce. Several also collected food boxes for their elderly shut-in neighbors.
“It’s very important to help everyone, to keep strong,” said Charla Wright, a grateful recipient whose husband lost his job because of the pandemic.
Wills Point Mayor Mark Turner was among the volunteers helping load food boxes into people’s cars.
Neighbors Helping Neighbors
“This is neighbor taking care of neighbor,” Turner said. “I’m very grateful for Gospel for Asia (GFA). Anytime the community needs something, they’re always there.”
Turner also thanked everyone who contributed to the food drive.
Gospel for Asia (GFA World) continues to help both locally and internationally as the pandemic impacts millions of families.
“While we’ve been helping to provide food for families here in Texas, thousands of GFA World partners in South Asia are distributing food to tens of thousands of families every month,” Yohannan said. “We’re asking God to help us do even more.”
For Saturday’s event, Gospel for Asia (GFA World) was thrilled to partner with Body of Life (www.bodyoflife.org) — a Christian nonprofit helping feed hungry people across East Texas, said Yohannan. Body of Life co-founder Rianna Alexander said many families were struggling right now because of job layoffs and reduced working hours.
