As many as 600 million people in India are facing a major crisis: water scarcity.
Due to the year-long drought in Southeast Asia, there is a critical water scarcity in India as experts warn some cities could run out of water entirely by next year.
Danny Yohannan, with Christian mission agencyGospel for Asia, says urgent prayers are needed for “heavy, heavy” rains during the monsoon season.
The situation has become so desperate for so many who must choose between bathing or drinking water, with livestock needing the same water, too.
“This is the situation that most of these people are in right now,” he tells OneNewsNow.
India is experiencing a “historic” drought which began last December and is worse than a 1972 crisis, British newspaperThe Guardian reported last month. In some areas, villages with thousands of residents are deserted due to lack of drinking water, dying livestock, and crop failures.
Gospel for Asia is doing all it can, Yohannan says, to come alongside families and show them God’s love in practical ways. He urges Christians worldwide to get involved, too.
“Even if we can help one person to make a difference in their life,” he says, “that is very significant in the eyes of God.”
Gospel for Asia was started by K.P. Yohannan, a native of India.
