Mourning the Death of Christ – Celebrating His Resurrection
WILLS POINT, TX – On Palm Sunday, Gospel for Asia unveiled its special plans for the observance of the death and burial of Jesus Christ and the celebration of His resurrection.
Services will be held Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday
- Maundy Thursday at 5:45 pm
- Good Friday at 6:30 pm
- Holy Saturday at 10:30 pm
- Easter Sunday morning at sunrise
The Maundy Thursday meeting will include a foot washing service in remembrance of Christ washing the feet of the 12 Apostles during the Last Supper. Continuing the observation, congregants will celebrate the Eucharist together. The service will conclude with a solemn “stripping the church.” For those not familiar with this practice, all décor is removed from the church in preparation for Good Friday as a reminder that Christ was stripped bare and gone from us.[1]Psalm 22 will be read during this latter part of the service.
During the Good Friday service, the Gospel for Asia community will continue their annual tradition of reenacting the Passion Narrative. The service is planned to reverently remember the pain Christ endured even before the agony on the cross.
Following the solemnity of Maundy Thursday and Good Friday services, the Saturday Vigil will begin in somberness at 10:30 pm and conclude with celebration after midnight, rejoicing that Christ has risen!
A Sunrise Service on Easter / Resurrection Sunday morning will continue Gospel for Asia’s special services, followed by a time of coffee and fellowship.
All services and activities will be held on the campus of Gospel for Asia in Wills Point, Texas. The public is cordially invited to attend and worship with them together.
