Gospel for Asia is helping women and children in third world countries come out of poverty through the Bridge of Hope program.
A problem in countries like India is when a family learns a pregnant mother is expecting a female baby, the child is often aborted. Or if she makes it through the pregnancy, she may soon be abandoned.
Danny Yohannan of Gospel for Asia explains that the birth of a girl can present economic hardship for the family.
“It’s tied in with the reality that if a family has multiple girls and they don’t have enough money to pay the dowry for these girls to get married, what happens is they basically are doomed to a life of misery because there’s no way for them to crawl out of that giant hole of debt,” Yohannan tells OneNewsNow.
As a result, some girls are trafficked as prostitutes. Worldwide, there are now more trafficked slaves than there has ever been.
“It’s such a huge market; it’s such a huge business, and it unfortunately doesn’t cost much to actually get a slave,” Yohannan laments. “You have lots and lots of kids and young people in bonded labor, especially young girls.”
In response, Gospel for Asia provides education, food, and medical assistance for tens of thousands of children in the ministry’s Bridge of Hope program…
